Rainy Day Dreaming

It is gray here in Minneapolis today. Also it is raining. The final kicker is that my little iPhone weather app shows potential snow on Wednesday and Sunday. Ugh! All I want to do is drink coffee today and take a nap. Here are the mugs I wish I could be drinking out of to brighten my spirits.

Monogram Anthropologie Mugs

Lenox Chip Mug

Kate Spade Mug

West Elm Mug

Do you have a favorite mug? I think my pick from the choices above is the Kate Spade mug. It just feels so springy and feminine. That and I don't think the husband will be taking it to work like the rest of our mugs. Be filled with joy today friends because that does not rest in our circumstances or weather.

The lamps that started it all

How was your Easter? Mine was a very busy but rich day. I think they should give the day after holidays off to recover.

Here she is:

While setting up our apartment I did a good bit of Homegoods browsing. What is great, or dangerous, about Homegoods is that they constantly have new goodies so you can shop weekly and never know what you will find. On day I saw a pair of these sitting on the shelf and knew they were perfect for our living room. They became the start that rooms decorating effort. It feels so good once you have a place to start. Have you ever started designing a room around something smaller like lamps?

mercury on my mind

When browsing the  all-consuming world of wedding blogs getting inspiration for our wedding, I kept falling for beautiful table settings utilizing mercury glass. Here is just one pretty example that made my creative heart flutter.

So pretty, elegant, and vintage. However our wedding vibe ended up being more fall inspired mixed with a nightclub wedding. It was awesome. It was a better combination of my husband's taste mixed with mine. That's what a wedding is after all right, two persons becoming one and creating an awesome fusion. I sometimes wonder about those amazing, ethereal, vintage, tea party weddings that rule the blogs. I don't know the gentlemen being married but I sure hope the wedding fit their taste also. Ah that little mental rant is hijacking this blog post. Focus Naomi!

Well now that the wedding jazz is behind the Luker and I, I almost forgot about my love of mercury glass. One rainy day trip to West Elm this past Thursday awoken the sleeping passion. Look at all the awesome pieces they have.

Mercury Mushrooms

Mercury Vases

Mercury Bug

What great stuff West Elm has. I didn't really have the need or space for any of the above pieces but I managed to sneak this little guy into my cart. I think it makes my ugly t.v. remote tray a bit more elegant.

Brown Butter Banana Muffins

This recipe is a keeper! After I made these I was informed that my husband doesn't really like banana baked goods. As a result I got to keep them all for me ;)

This recipe is courtesy of Claire Robinson, of the food network show 5 Ingredient Fix.

Ingredients:
4 ripe bananas (a good way to use up those ugly brown ones sitting on your counter)
1/3 cup agave syrup or honey ( I mixed half of each of these because agave is kinda spendy)
1 stick of unsalted butter
1 large egg
1 3/4 cup self rising flour ( This is how she gets the ingredient list to be only 5 items. If you only have all-purpose flour like I did add 1tsp baking powder and 1/2 tsp baking soda)

Directions:
1. Mash the bananas with a fork in a large mixing bowl. The texture should be liquefied with small chunks.
2.Preheat oven to 375 and line a muffin tin with muffin liners.
3. Melt the stick of butter in a pan, stirring occasionally, until the milk solids have reached a golden brown color.
4. Add half the mashed bananas and whisk for a few minutes to caramelize the bananas. Add the remaining bananas and whisk to combine. Then whisk in the egg. Fold in the flour mixture in two parts with a spatula being careful not to over mix.
5. Using a small ice cream scoop or spoon, fill the muffin tin cups.
6. Bake in the center of the oven until golden brown and the tops of the muffins spring back when pressed. For me this was 25 minutes. Claire's recipe said 30 minutes.
7. Cool for 5 minutes in the pan and then transfer the muffins to a rack to cool completely.
8. Eat as many as possible.
